Some people walk into a room.

Ari Gold kicks the door open, insults three people, closes a seven-figure deal, and somehow makes it home in time to disappoint his wife.

If you've watched Entourage, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Ari doesn't do subtle.

He doesn't whisper when he can yell. He doesn't ask when he can demand. And he certainly doesn't waste time worrying about whether somebody thinks he's a little too much.

Which is precisely why I wanted to build a watch inspired by him.

All gold.

Not a little gold. Not a tasteful gold accent. Gold case. Gold bracelet. Gold dial. Gold hands.

The kind of watch that enters a conference room approximately three seconds before you do.

I started with a classic fluted-bezel case, added a gold sunburst dial with Roman numerals, and kept the entire thing unapologetically monochromatic.

Somewhere along the way, I realized there was only one name that made sense.

The Gold Standard.

A nod to Ari, obviously. But also to the idea that if you're going to do something, you might as well set the bar unreasonably high.

It's bold. It's excessive. It has absolutely no interest in blending in.

And I suspect Ari would approve.

Although he'd probably call me an idiot for not charging more.
