The Izzo

I married into this one.

Growing up in Chicago, my sports education was pretty straightforward: professional teams, irrational loyalty, and enough disappointment to build character.

College sports? Not really my thing.

Then I married a Michigan girl.

My wife grew up a die-hard Michigan State fan, a love she shared with her dad. After he passed away, that connection to the Spartans became about more than basketball or football. It became one of those family traditions that sticks around, gets passed down, and somehow recruits new members along the way.

Which is exactly what happened to me.

Now our kids are big Sparty fans, green shows up around the house with suspicious frequency, and I’ve accepted that Michigan State is officially part of the family.

So naturally, I made a watch.

The Izzo features a black fluted bezel, a silver dial, and Spartan green hands and indices. It’s clean enough that you don’t have to wear face paint with it, but green enough that anyone from East Lansing will get the message.

And the name?

There aren’t many names more closely tied to Michigan State than Izzo. Tom Izzo has become part of the fabric of Spartan basketball, so it seemed like the right name for a watch built around a little tradition, a lot of family, and an allegiance I definitely did not see coming.
